Why Does My Suzuki Wagon Rs Fuel Cap Keep Getting Loose o r Popping Open?

My Wagon R’s fuel cap doesn’t stay tightly closed. Sometimes after filling fuel, it feels loose o r even opens slightly while driving. Is this a design flaw o r do I need to replace it? Are other owners in Pakistan facing the same problem?

This issue is fairly common in the Wagon R due to:

Low-quality plastic threads on the cap.

Over-tightening by petrol pump staff, which damages the cap’s grip.

Wear and tear over time, especially after 3–4 years of usage.

A loose fuel cap can cause fuel vapors to escape o r dust to enter, affecting fuel system performance. If it’s not clicking tightly o r feels too easy to open, it likely needs replacement.

Solution:

Replace the cap if it doesnt click when closed.

Always tighten until you hear a click.

Avoid over-tightening, which can damage the seal.

Cost of Replacement:
Rs. 800 to Rs. 2,000 aftermarket
Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000 genuine Suzuki part
