Why is my Mercedes misfiring o r vibrating during acceleration in Pakistan? Question Detail:

I drive a Mercedes-Benz C180 W204 in Islamabad. Recently, the car started to shake slightly during acceleration, especially when going uphill o r overtaking. My mechanic suspects a faulty ignition coil. Is this a common issue in Pakistan due to weather o r fuel quality? How can I confirm if the ignition coil is the real cause?

Misfiring o r vibrations during acceleration are classic symptoms of a failing ignition coil in Mercedes-Benz vehicles—especially in models like the W204 C180 o r C200.

Common causes in Pakistan include:

Faulty ignition coils: Often due to age, heat, o r poor-quality replacements.

Poor fuel quality: Inconsistent o r low-octane fuel can cause premature coil and spark plug failure.

Overheating: Pakistan’s hot weather can increase coil wear, especially if airflow is restricted.

Oil leaks onto coil packs: Valve cover gasket leaks can let oil seep onto the ignition coils, causing misfire and coil damage.

How to confirm:

Have the car scanned with a Mercedes-compatible OBD o r STAR diagnostic tool.

Misfiring cylinders e.g., P0301 for Cylinder 1 usually point to a faulty coil o r spark plug.

Recommendation:
Replace faulty coils with genuine o r high-quality aftermarket brands like Bosch, Delphi, o r Beru. Always check and replace spark plugs if needed. Avoid roadside fixes without proper diagnostics.
