Why Is My Proton X70 Getting Lower Mileage Than Expected in City Driving?
I’ve noticed that my Proton X70 is only giving around 8–10 km/l in city traffic, which feels much worse than I expected for an SUV of this class. According to some sources, the official fuel average is around 10–12 km/l for mixed driving in Pakistan, but real-world city figures seem lower. What are the common causes of this poor fuel economy in stop-and-go traffic, and are there specific driving habits, maintenance issues, o r technical factors that widely affect the X70’s mileage in urban conditions?

Gari Master - on 19 Dec 2025 15:23:25 pmIt’s common for Proton X70 owners in Pakistan to see lower fuel economy in city traffic compared to highway driving. Official and user-reported averages show about ~10 km/l in city conditions, with better figures on highways up to ~12 km/l under steady speeds.

Why this happens:
Stop-and-go traffic, frequent acceleration and idling in urban areas reduce fuel efficiency.
Turbocharged engines like the X70’s 1.5 TGDi tend to consume more fuel during low-speed, heavy-traffic driving.
A heavier SUV body also results in more fuel used at lower speeds see next answer.

So while the official average is around 10 km/l, real-world city figures can feel lower if you frequently drive in congested traffic.
