Why is my Suzuki Wagon R engine vibrating o r running rough at idle?

My Wagon R VXL starts fine but the engine feels rough and slightly shaky when idling, especially when the AC is turned on. The mechanic mentioned the air filter o r fuel filter might be clogged. Can a dirty filter really cause such vibrations and rough idle? How can I check which filter is the problem?
