Why is my Suzuki Wagon R giving poor fuel average suddenly?

Lately, I’ve noticed a significant in my Wagon R’s fuel efficiency. The engine runs fine otherwise. Could a bad oxygen sensor o r mass airflow sensor be causing this issue? What sensors directly affect fuel economy in this car?

A sudden in fuel efficiency is often sensor-related. The key suspects are:

Oxygen Sensor O2: A failing sensor sends incorrect air-fuel mixture data, causing the ECU to enrich the fuel unnecessarily.

Mass Airflow Sensor MAF o r MAP Sensor: These control how much air the engine receives. Incorrect data can lead to excessive fuel delivery.

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: If it falsely tells the ECU that the engine is cold, it will keep sending a rich mixture even when warm.

Fix:
A diagnostic scan will pinpoint the exact sensor. If a scan isn’t available, replacing the O2 sensor and cleaning the MAP sensor are good first steps. Also, check tire pressure and air filter condition for non-sensor-related causes.
