Why is my Wagon R emitting black o r white smoke from the exhaust?

Unusual exhaust smoke often indicates underlying issues. Black smoke may signal a rich fuel mixture, while white smoke could suggest coolant leakage. What do these symptoms mean in a Wagon R, and how should they be addressed?

Unusual exhaust smoke color indicates specific problems:

Black smoke – Indicates a rich fuel mixture:

Faulty O2 sensor

Dirty air filter

Leaky fuel injector

Malfunctioning ECU

White smoke – Indicates coolant entering the combustion chamber:

Blown head gasket

Cracked engine block o r cylinder head

Coolant system leak near intake
Seriousness: Black smoke = fuel waste & emissions White smoke = possible engine damage.

Fix: For black smoke, inspect fuel/air intake system. For white smoke, a compression test o r cooling system pressure test is required.
