Did Punjab Increase Motorcycle and E-Bike Registration Fees?

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has officially denied recent social media rumors suggesting a bike registration increase for motorcycles and electric bikes. The department clarified that there has been no change in Punjab bike fees and that all online claims are unfounded.

Amber Jabeen, the spokesperson for the Finance, Excise, and Taxation Minister, stated in a conversation with Geo Fact Check that there is currently no proposal to revise Punjab e-bike charges or motorcycle registration fees.

Director General Excise and Taxation, Umar Sher, also labeled the online rumors as “speculative” and not based on any official documentation.

Punjab Bike Registration – No Change in Fee Structure
According to Asim Amin, Director of Enforcement and Audit, the Punjab bike registration fees remain unchanged across all categories:

  • Up to 70cc: Rs. 1,000
  • 71cc to 100cc: Rs. 1,500
  • 101cc to 125cc: Rs. 2,000
  • 126cc to 150cc: Rs. 2,500
  • Above 150cc: 2% of the motorcycle’s value

He further confirmed that E-bike registration in Punjab continues to benefit from a 95% discount on both registration and token tax—making it a cost-effective option for electric vehicle owners.

No New Taxes or Fitness Fees for Motorcycles
A representative from the Punjab Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) also addressed another viral claim. He confirmed that there has been no official notification for a Rs. 1,000 motorcycle fitness certificate fee. VICS has not been instructed to begin inspections for motorbikes, and no part of the recently passed Punjab transport tax laws includes motorcycles under mandatory fitness certification.

The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 does not require motorcycles to obtain a fitness certificate, contrary to some media posts.

No Motorcycle Fee Hike in Punjab
To sum up, the Motorcycle fee hike in Punjab is just a rumor. The current Punjab motorcycle tax and Punjab vehicle fees remain the same. There is no bike registration update or new policy affecting the cost of registering motorcycles or electric bikes in the province.

So, for now, residents can breathe a sigh of relief—Punjab e-bike charges and motorcycle registration costs are not increasing anytime soon.
