The Punjab Govt Initiative is taking a bold step toward eco-friendly transportation and youth empowerment through the launch of the Electric Taxi Scheme known as the CM Punjab Green E-Taxi Program. This forward-looking Electric Taxi Program aims to boost public mobility and promote clean energy across the province by distributing Punjab Electric Taxis among the population—particularly targeting unemployed youth and women.

EV Taxi Launch – First Phase Highlights

In its first phase, the program will roll out 1,100 Affordable Electric Taxis under an Easy Taxi Installments system. This installment plan is interest-free, making it easier for a wide range of citizens to benefit from the scheme. The Taxi on Installments model will enable applicants to drive eco-friendly vehicles without bearing the financial burden upfront.

These Electric Vehicles in Punjab will include models like the Honri VC20 and VC30, introduced through a collaboration with Dewan Motors. With driving ranges of 200 km and 300 km per charge, these vehicles are practical for urban and intercity use.

Promoting Green Transport in Punjab

A core feature of this Green Transport Punjab project is environmental preservation. Since the taxis are fully electric, they produce zero tailpipe emissions and generate minimal noise, which can significantly reduce air and sound pollution in busy cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan. The EV Taxi Launch is expected to set a new standard in sustainable public transportation across the province.

To support these vehicles, the government plans to build a comprehensive charging infrastructure. In Lahore alone, EV charging stations will be installed at approximately every 3 kilometers, ensuring smooth operations. Expansion to other districts is also in the pipeline.

Inclusive Benefits for Underserved Communities

The program is designed to be inclusive and equitable. Special focus is being placed on providing Punjab Electric Taxis to:

Young, unemployed individuals
Women from both urban and rural areas
Persons with disabilities
Residents of underserved or remote regions

This focus ensures that the Electric Taxi Scheme serves not just environmental goals, but also social empowerment.

Massive Public Interest and Easy Application

According to Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, the application process will be user-friendly and accessible to all. A wide-reaching public awareness campaign will be launched via TV, social media, and print media to inform citizens about eligibility and how to apply.

Remarkably, over 60,000 applications have already been submitted—even before the program’s official rollout. This overwhelming response highlights the strong public interest in the Electric Taxi Program and reflects growing support for sustainable transportation solutions.
