EV Charging Stations Coming to All Islamabad Petrol Pumps

In a major step towards promoting clean energy and reducing air pollution, the federal government has revealed a strategic plan to equip all petrol pumps in Islamabad with EV charging stations by 2030. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader goal to encourage electric mobility and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

This announcement came during the fifth session of the Steering Committee on the Electric Vehicle Policy, chaired by Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production. The committee extensively reviewed the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30, which highlights Islamabad’s pioneering efforts in environmental reforms and electric vehicle integration.

According to projections, Pakistan will have approximately 2.2 million electric cars and motorcycles on its roads within the next five years. This expected surge in electric vehicle Islamabad usage will be supported by the establishment of over 3,000 EV charging stations in Pakistan by the end of the year, significantly boosting Islamabad EV charging infrastructure.

The meeting included key representatives from the Federal Board of Revenue, State Bank of Pakistan, Capital Development Authority, and other vital ministries. Discussions covered topics such as subsidies, EV charging petrol pumps, vehicle emission monitoring, and the effects of climate on battery performance.

The government emphasized that the EV charging network Pakistan will not only help reduce the country’s fuel import bill but also address climate change concerns. Haroon Akhtar Khan stressed the importance of measuring environmental progress using international benchmarks and mentioned that carbon credit systems are also under review.

This bold shift towards EV infrastructure Islamabad reflects the government’s strong commitment to building a cleaner, greener future, turning the capital into a role model for sustainable electric transport in Pakistan.
