First Electric Tram Route Officially Announced in Pakistan

Lahore is gearing up to launch the first electric tram service in Pakistan, following the successful introduction of electric buses. This major step is part of the government's vision to modernize and expand Pakistan public transport with more sustainable solutions.

According to an official spokesperson from the Orange Line, electric trams from China have been ordered to enhance the city's commitment to eco-friendly transport. These green transport Pakistan initiatives are designed to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion in urban areas.

Each tram features a modern three-compartment design and has a passenger capacity of up to 250 people. The trams are engineered to travel 25 to 27 kilometers on a single 10-minute charge, making them highly efficient. The spokesperson confirmed that the first tram units are being assembled at the Ali Town Depot, a major milestone in the Pakistan electric transit development.

The launch will begin with a pilot phase to test the service under real-world conditions. During the trial, the electric tram service will be free for public use.
