How Much Emission Testing Will Cost After June 30 ?

Lahore's free Emission Testing System (ETS) is set to end on June 30, marking a major change in how vehicles will be tested in the city. As part of the Lahore ETS update, the government will transfer emission testing responsibilities to private vehicle dealerships, ending the current free service that has been operational across 20 city locations.

According to Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, after the cutoff date, ETS-related services will be outsourced to authorized dealerships associated with leading automobile manufacturers. These centers will now offer ETS private testing services to the public.

Vehicle owners in Lahore will now be required to pay an emission testing fee of Rs. 400 per vehicle. This new ETS cost applies to every emission check conducted at the designated dealerships. The move aims to improve accessibility and reduce delays, which had become common at the overcrowded government testing centers.

The department believes this decision will lead to a significant rise in the number of tested vehicles. With trained staff and proper ETS machines, these dealerships are expected to ensure more accurate and efficient tests. The ETS charges in Lahore are designed to reflect a shift toward privatization and better service quality.

The original ETS program was launched as a free emission testing Pakistan initiative to combat rising air pollution. However, the system faced challenges due to limited resources and increasing demand. The transition to dealership-based testing is expected to streamline the process and ensure broader compliance over time.

With the introduction of vehicle emission costs, the city administration hopes to not only manage air quality better but also bring convenience to the public through more locations and reduced wait times. Car emission charges are now a reality for Lahore’s vehicle owners, and this change marks a new chapter in the city’s environmental policy.
