JAC T9 Hunter Sets 24 Hour Endurance Record in SA
The JAC T9 Hunter, a dynamic Chinese-manufactured double-cab pickup, has achieved a historic milestone by establishing a new speed and endurance record for commercial vehicles in South Africa. This accomplishment highlights the vehicle’s exceptional engineering and positions it as a formidable contender in the global automotive market, with plans for an imminent launch in Pakistan.
Record-Breaking Performance at Gerotek
At the prestigious Gerotek testing facility near Pretoria, the JAC T9 Hunter completed an extraordinary 24-hour endurance test, covering 4,084 kilometers at an average speed of 170.1 km/h. This performance surpassed a 15-year-old record previously set by Japanese competitors, cementing the JAC T9 Hunter’s place as a leader in its category.
Metric | JAC T9 Hunter (2025) | Previous Record (2010) |

Visionary Challenge Inspired by Adventure
South African adventurer and automotive enthusiast Danie Botha spearheaded the initiative, drawing inspiration from American IndyCar endurance races. His goal was to showcase the capabilities of commercial vehicles in a high-stakes, race-like environment, blending excitement with durability testing.
Botha remarked, “Our mission was to highlight the JAC T9 Hunter’s resilience and performance, proving it’s more than just a stylish pickup—it’s built for the long haul.”
The JAC T9 Hunter outperformed the previous record set by Isuzu in 2010 (4,063 km) and an earlier benchmark by Toyota’s Hilux (3,818 km at 159.1 km/h).
Engineered for Excellence
Powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, the JAC T9 Hunter delivers 125 kW of power and 410 Nm of torque, paired with an advanced 8-speed automatic transmission. This robust configuration excelled under grueling conditions, maintaining high speeds for 24 consecutive hours.
The vehicle was equipped with Continental Cross Contact ATR tires, rated for speeds up to 210 km/h, ensuring stability and grip. Engen provided high-performance fuel and lubricants, optimizing the JAC T9 Hunter’s efficiency throughout the test.
Despite minimal pit-stop infrastructure, the JAC team completed 1,350 laps of the high-speed circuit, achieving an average fuel consumption of 16.5 liters per 100 km—a commendable result given the test’s intensity.
