Japan Reveals the Latest Honda WR-V Model

Honda has recently introduced the latest WR-V model designed specifically for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). It's essential to note that this release differs from the new Honda WR-V launched earlier this year in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.

A Twist in Naming Convention
Interestingly, the JDM WR-V is essentially a rebadged version of the Honda Elevate, which made its debut in India in July and hit the market in September. This adds a layer of complexity to Honda's naming convention. Similar to the HR-V in North American markets, which is a rebadged Honda ZR-V from the Chinese market, the HR-V in other regions, including Pakistan, follows a different design.

Preliminary Details and Variants
As of now, Honda has shared preliminary details about the JDM WR-V. The model will be available in three variants: X, Z, and Z+, with sales scheduled to commence in Japan from Q1, 2024. All variants will feature a 1.5L naturally-aspirated four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine paired with a CVT gearbox, driving the front wheels. This configuration mirrors that of the Indian Elevate, producing 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque. Notably, the Indian Elevate offers a 6-speed manual transmission option as well.

Advanced Features and Technology
The JDM WR-V will come equipped with Honda Connect telematics and Honda Sensing. The latter includes a range of advanced safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, false start prevention (front and rear), lane departure assist, lane keeping support, adaptive cruise control, lead car departure notification, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, and parking sensors.

Shared Amenities with the Elevate
Based on images from Honda Japan’s official website, the WR-V shares numerous amenities with the Elevate. These include a 7-inch multi-info display, fabric seat upholstery, automatic air conditioning with rear vents, and a touchscreen head unit. Additional details are expected to be unveiled closer to the launch date.

While the introduction of the Elevate in Pakistan by Honda Atlas seems unlikely, the prospect of the JDM WR-V arriving as a used import sooner than expected remains a possibility.
