Kia EV4 to Launch with AWD and GT Variants
Kia EV4 to Launch with AWD and GT Variants
Kia is ramping up its electric vehicle game by adding more excitement to its upcoming Kia electric SUV, the EV4. According to the latest Kia EV4 news, the automaker has officially confirmed that the Kia EV4 AWD and high-performance Kia EV4 GT variants are on the way. This move signals a significant upgrade to the model’s capabilities, aiming to cater to a broader spectrum of drivers.
The standard version of the Kia EV4 has already made its debut in South Korea earlier in 2025. Now, the Kia EV4 launch is set for expansion, with production for North America and Australia scheduled to begin in the last quarter of the year. Deliveries in these regions are expected to commence in early 2026. At launch, the base EV4 will be equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor and offered with two battery choices: a 58.3 kWh pack and an 81.4 kWh option.
Despite the battery size, the initial configuration will generate just over 200 horsepower. While there is a “GT-Line” trim available, it focuses on cosmetic upgrades rather than enhancing performance. However, the future holds more thrilling options, particularly with the addition of Kia EV4 variants like the AWD and GT trims.
The introduction of an AWD electric SUV in the EV4 lineup is a pivotal enhancement. Typically, this involves integrating an extra electric motor at the rear, significantly boosting traction and power. Though Kia has not revealed the precise Kia EV4 specs for the AWD model yet, it's confirmed to follow after the main launch in 2026. This setup will not only improve all-weather drivability but also increase output, making it more appealing to performance enthusiasts.
What truly excites fans, however, is the upcoming GT electric car variant. Drawing inspiration from the EV6 GT — which boasts a dual-motor system and a whopping 576 horsepower — the Kia EV4 GT is expected to offer dynamic driving performance. While it may not reach the same power levels as its EV6 sibling to maintain lineup balance, the EV4 GT is still anticipated to deliver serious acceleration and thrill, potentially competing with models like the Tesla Model 3 Performance.
Kia is also likely to introduce the “Virtual Gear Shift” system in the EV4 GT. This innovative feature replicates the experience of a traditional paddle-shift transmission, complete with simulated gear changes and torque curves — a great addition for those who crave a more interactive drive from their EV.
Naturally, these performance upgrades will impact range. The standard front-wheel-drive version with the larger 81.4 kWh battery is estimated to achieve around 531 kilometers, while the smaller battery offers up to 378 kilometers. With the added weight and power demands of the Kia EV4 AWD and GT models, these figures are expected to drop slightly — a trade-off many drivers may find acceptable for improved power and handling.
