M2 Motorway Temporary Closed Due to Smog Conditions
The persistent smog shrouding various regions of Punjab has prompted the temporary closure of the Lahore to Sheikhupura M2 motorway, impacting traffic and necessitating precautionary measures. Motorway police spokespersons emphasized that the prohibition on travel along the motorways aims to safeguard public safety during the hazardous smog conditions.
In light of the smog-induced visibility challenges, citizens are strongly advised to refrain from unnecessary travel. In cases of urgent travel, individuals are urged to use both front and rear fog lights to enhance visibility and ensure safer journeys.
Notably, other key routes have also been affected by the smog, with closures reported on the Lahore-Multan stretch from Faizpur to Jarhanwala and the Lahore motorway from Lahore to Sambrial earlier in the week. The National Highways and Motorway Police have issued a travel advisory, urging commuters to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and dial 130 for real-time traffic and weather updates before embarking on their journeys.
The severity of smog-related hazards was underscored by a recent incident near Qadiurabad Toll Plaza in Sahiwal, where low visibility led to a collision involving multiple cars, resulting in the tragic death of three individuals. Police reports indicate that the collision was a consequence of reduced visibility, emphasizing the need for heightened precautions during smoggy conditions to prevent further accidents.
