Proton Unveils Fully Redesigned Saga MC3 2026 Model

Proton has introduced the latest generation of its well-known entry-level sedan, now branded as the Proton Saga MC3. The new model made its official debut in Malaysia on 27 November 2025 and will be marketed as the 2026 Proton Saga. While the car retains its iconic nameplate, it carries a refreshed design, a stronger engine, and a noticeable jump in technology compared to the older version.

Three Variants and Updated Pricing Structure
The Saga MC3 will initially be offered exclusively in Malaysia, available in Standard, Executive, and Premium trims.
The company has announced the following starting prices (excluding insurance):

  • Standard – RM37,990
  • Executive – RM43,990
  • Premium – RM48,990

Converted to Pakistani currency, the price range is approximately PKR 2.57 million to PKR 3.32 million, positioning it as a value-driven sedan within its class.

Upgraded 1.5L Engine and New Platform
A major highlight of the new Saga is its 1.5-liter i-GT four-cylinder engine, rated at 118 hp and 150 Nm of torque.

Transmission options differ across variants:

  • Standard & Executive: 4-speed automatic
  • Premium: CVT gearbox for smoother performance

The sedan is now built on Proton’s enhanced Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), offering improvements in rigidity, stability, and overall ride quality.

Inside the cabin, Proton has given the MC3 a full digital boost. The higher trims come equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with wireless connectivity available on the top variant.

Improved Safety Package and Driver Assistance Features
Safety has been another area of major improvement. The Premium version includes a Level 1 ADAS suite, offering:

  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Six airbags

Meanwhile, the Standard and Executive variants still provide key safety essentials like electronic stability control, multiple sensors, and basic protective features.

Proton’s Journey and Challenges in Pakistan
Proton once entered the Pakistani automotive market through Al-Haj Automotive, bringing the earlier Proton Saga as an economical option for buyers moving up from small hatchbacks. as an economical option for buyers moving up from small hatchbacks.

The Saga delivered great value: a 1.3-liter engine, generous boot capacity, airbags, traction control, ESC, brake assist, and Android Auto support — all at nearly the same price as a Suzuki Cultus.

However, despite its strong potential, the brand’s journey in Pakistan was short-lived. Delivery delays, spare-parts shortages, and inadequate after-sales services caused severe dissatisfaction among customers. Many buyers who had booked vehicles were never delivered their units, leading to frustration and loss of trust.

By 2022, these challenges compelled Proton to pull back from the Pakistani market, despite the vehicle’s strong capability.

In contrast, Proton continues to enjoy a solid reputation in Malaysia, where the Saga is widely praised for offering excellent value, reliability, and affordability — something that unfortunately could not be fully realized in Pakistan due to local dealership issues.
