Punjab E-Taxi Financing Details Announced for Buyers

Punjab has taken a major step toward launching the Pakistan First E-Taxi project, as the provincial government confirmed the financing structure for the initiative. This Punjab E-Taxi Program aims to introduce eco-friendly transportation while offering subsidies, financing support, and operational ease for drivers and passengers.

In the initial stage, nearly 1,100 Lahore Electric Taxi units will hit the roads. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the financing package, which allows banks to provide loans of up to Rs. 6.5 million for electric vehicles. Under this plan, the government will bear the interest expense, while buyers will make a subsidized down payment.

For vehicles priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, the Punjab government will contribute Rs. 585,000 toward the down payment. The balance will be covered through bank financing, making the Punjab Taxi Financing scheme more affordable for aspiring drivers.

Authorities have earmarked Rs. 2 billion for this Punjab E-Taxi Service, with the first fleet relying on Chinese-made electric vehicles. To strengthen the project, 18 charging stations have already been set up across Lahore, with more planned as the service expands.

The Pakistan E-Taxi Project is designed to cut transportation costs, improve air quality, and modernize mobility solutions under the Punjab Clean Mobility initiative. By offering an Electric Taxi Subsidy, the government is encouraging green travel and boosting the future of Pakistan Green Transport.
