Punjab to Block Registration of Cars with Unpaid Token Tax

The Punjab government has initiated a major crackdown on token tax defaulters, warning that more than 500,000 vehicles across the province could face vehicle registration suspension. The move aims to improve tax compliance and ensure that all registered vehicles contribute to the province’s revenue system.

According to the Punjab Excise Department, vehicle owners who fail to clear their Punjab token tax by October 31 will have their registrations blocked. Currently, over 1.4 million vehicles fall under the tax payment requirement, with nearly 900,000 owners having already cleared their dues within the first four months of the fiscal year.

Officials revealed that the department has so far collected more than Rs. 5 billion in vehicle tax Pakistan, but a large number of motorists are still pending payment. The department is determined to enforce the rules strictly to recover the remaining dues and discourage future token tax defaulters.

Director General Umer Sher Chattha emphasized that during on-road inspections, vehicles with overdue taxes may face immediate impoundment. He further added that the enforcement campaign will also target unregistered government and private vehicles to ensure compliance with car registration Punjab laws.

The Punjab Excise Department has strongly advised all owners to complete their car registration renewal and submit their token tax before the token tax deadline. Failure to do so may result in a token tax penalty, registration suspension, or even fines. Motorists are urged to act promptly to avoid unnecessary token tax fines and interruptions to their vehicle usage.
