Suzuki Not Sharing Swift and Jimny with Toyota

The collaboration between Toyota and Suzuki has resulted in the creation of several cross-badged products, each featuring subtle design alterations. Examples include the Toyota Rumion based on the Suzuki Eritga, Toyota Glanza based on the Suzuki Baleno, The Toyota Urban Cruiser based on Suzuki Brezza, The Toyota Belta based on the Suzuki Ciaz, The Toyota Vitz based on the Suzuki Celerio, Suzuki Swace based on Toyota Corolla Estate, Suzuki Across based on Toyota Rav4, and Suzuki Invicto based on Toyota Innova Hyrcross.

Global Cross-Badged Launch

These cross-badged products have been successfully introduced in various markets, including India, Africa, and certain European regions. However, a recent report reveals that Suzuki is taking a firm stance, refusing to grant Toyota access to two of its most crucial products.

Jimny and Swift Off-Limits to Toyota

Suzuki has explicitly communicated its reluctance to allow Toyota to badge engineer the Jimny and Swift. According to Suzuki officials, these two models hold a special place in Suzuki's DNA, and the company is unwilling to share them with Toyota. The statement from Suzuki emphasizes that models integral to the brand's identity should not be subject to badge engineering, highlighting a mutual respect for each company's core offerings.

Protecting Iconic Status:

Suzuki's official stance on the matter revolves around the belief that the Jimny and Swift are iconic to the brand and should not be diluted by sharing them with Toyota. A Suzuki representative expressed that attempting to badge engineer these models would be akin to asking Toyota to let Suzuki badge engineer the Land Cruiser. The company stands firm in preserving the unique identity and iconic status of these models.

Toyota's Interest:

Reports suggest that Toyota was keen on badge engineering the Jimny, intending to offer it as a more affordable 4x4 alternative to its larger, costlier crossovers and SUVs. Despite a decline in Jimny sales after an initial surge, Suzuki remains steadfast in its decision not to share the model with Toyota, prioritizing the preservation of its iconic status.

Suzuki Declares Hatchback as Off-Limits

Similarly, the Swift has been declared off-limits to the Toyota-Suzuki partnership. Suzuki maintains that vehicles essential to its brand identity, such as the Swift, should not be shared, even in the face of Toyota's interest in acquiring the popular hatchback. This decision underscores Suzuki's commitment to safeguarding the individuality and exclusivity of its core models.
