Traffic Police Launch Crackdown on Fake Number Plates

Lahore authorities have launched a major traffic police action to curb the growing use of fake number plates across the city. Officials confirmed that a comprehensive traffic violations crackdown has begun, targeting motorists involved in vehicle registration fraud or driving with illegal number plates. According to police sources, strict criminal cases will now be registered at local stations against anyone found using plates other than those issued by the Excise and Taxation Department.

The Lahore Safe City Authority reported that surveillance teams have intensified monitoring on key roads. High-tech cameras are actively verifying vehicle numbers and matching them with the official Excise database to ensure proper vehicle documentation checks. Authorities said this step is crucial for road safety enforcement, as fake plates are often used to hide identity during criminal activities or avoid fines.

Officials also highlighted that several vehicles have already been flagged during the ongoing police checking campaign, and action has been initiated against their owners. They added that using fake or unauthorized number plates is a direct violation of traffic rules Pakistan, and no one will be spared under the new enforcement strategy.

The traffic police further advised citizens to switch immediately to officially issued plates if they are using customized or unverified ones. Continued use of illegal plates could result in heavy penalties under the latest traffic fine updates, along with possible legal proceedings. Authorities stressed that this crackdown aims to ensure transparent identification of vehicles and improve overall city security.

Residents of Lahore have been urged to cooperate fully and avoid any involvement in fraudulent registration practices. The government aims to create safer roads, reduce misuse of vehicles in crimes, and bring discipline to the city’s traffic system through this decisive action.
