Punjab Excise Dept Vehicle Registration by Smart Cards

Department of Punjab Excise has set the replacement of the registration books with the new smart cards. The government announced that the smart cards for the registration of the
vehicles will be issued during November 2017 and it was delayed due to some reasons. The smart cards will be issued during the month of March this year.

Smart Cards Punjab government set the aim to digitize the process of vehicle registration and it will have added the benefits over the registration books and the size of the registration books will be reduced. The smart cards will have the size of the normal identity card unlike the registration books, which has large size and it is difficult to carry it.

The DG of Excise Department said that the processes to implement this technology, have been completed. In the beginning, the authorities will not force the owners of the vehicles to get the smart cards in replacement of their registration books.

The cost of the smart card will be Rs.500. the owners can get the smart cards by visiting the office of excise department and they pay the fee for issue of the smart card. It will feature with the chip to show the previous status. The remaining features are added in the smart card, which are:

• Token tax expiry date
• Number of Cylinder
• Type of body
• Color of vehicle
• Maker’s Name

• Reg. Laden wight
• Tyre size
o Front axle
o Rear axle
o Other axle
• Year of manufacturing
• Seating capacity
• Horse power/CC
• Assessed Annual Tax of RS
The replacement of the registration books with the smart card was announced two years before. The government invited the bids in July 2017 to implement this process but it was delayed and now it is said that the implementation of the smart cards will be commenced from Lahore.
