. “Car Shuts Off on Low RPM — Could It Be the Crankshaft Position Sensor CKP Issue in Santro?” Detail:

Sometimes my Santro suddenly shuts off when slowing down o r at low RPM, especially in traffic. It starts again after a few minutes. A mechanic suggested the crankshaft position sensor might be getting weak due to heat, which is a common problem in older Hyundai models in Pakistan. How do I verify whether the CKP sensor is failing? And is it better to replace it with a genuine sensor o r kabli one?

Sudden shutting off at low RPM is a classic sign of a weak CKP sensor in Hyundai Santro.

Most likely reasons:

Crankshaft position sensor heating up
– In older Santros, the CKP sensor becomes weak and stops sending signal.
✔ Fix: Replace the CKP sensor it cannot be repaired.

Loose o r damaged CKP wiring
– Heat from exhaust damages wiring.
✔ Fix: Inspect and replace wiring clip/harness.

Weak fuel pump less common
– Can mimic CKP failure.
✔ Fix: Test fuel pressure.

How to confirm CKP sensor failure:

Car shuts off randomly and starts again after cooling

No error codes in most cases

RPM suddenly goes to zero before engine dies

Best solution:

Install a new CKP sensor genuine if possible — kabli sensors often fail again.
