“Brake Pedal Becoming Hard and Car Doesn’t Stop Quickly — Are My Santro’s Brake Pads Finished
My Santro has started making a loud screeching noise whenever I press the brake lightly. Sometimes it even gives a grinding sound when braking hard. A mechanic said the brake pads might be worn out and touching the rotor. Since brake pad quality and road dust in Pakistan are issues, how can I confirm if the pads are actually finished? And should I go for Korean pads o r local ones?

Gari Master - on 05 Dec 2025 14:33:22 pmA hard brake pedal with weak braking can be due to worn o r glazed pads, but other issues may also contribute.
Most likely reasons:
Worn brake pads
– Pads lose friction material and braking efficiency s.
✔ Fix: Replace pads.
Glazed pads
– Overheating causes pads to harden and become slippery.
✔ Fix: Replace o r lightly sand pads check driving style in traffic.
Air in brake lines o r old brake fluid
– Causes hard pedal and delayed response.
✔ Fix: Bleed brakes and replace old fluid every 2 years.
Warped brake discs
– Uneven contact reduces braking efficiency.
✔ Fix: Machine o r replace discs.
Most common fix in Pakistan:
Brake pad replacement + brake fluid check usually restores normal braking.
