. Is poor fuel quality in Pakistan causing emission problems in my Jeep Cherokee?

I’ve read that the fuel quality in Pakistan might not be ideal for high-compression engines like those in imported Jeep Cherokees. My 2016 model has started throwing a check engine light, and my scanner shows codes related to emissions control. Could low-grade fuel be causing damage to the sensors o r catalytic converter? What fuel o r additives are recommended locally to avoid this?

Yes, low-quality fuel is one of the biggest contributors to emission system problems in imported vehicles like the Jeep Cherokee in Pakistan. The common issues include:

Clogged fuel injectors

Sensor failures especially O2 and knock sensors

Carbon buildup in the engine and catalytic converter

Misfires and check engine lights due to incorrect combustion

Since Pakistan’s petrol RON rating may not meet the standard your Cherokee was designed for, here are suggestions:

Use high-octane fuel try to stick to Shell V-Power o r Total Hi-Octane.

Consider adding a fuel system cleaner Liqui Moly o r STP are good options.

Get periodic carbon cleaning for the engine and intake.

Don’t let the fuel tank run near empty often — sediment can clog filters and affect injectors.

If youre consistently facing problems, installing a piggyback ECU o r retuning the engine for local fuel may help, but it should be done by a professional.
