After just over a year of use in hot conditions Lahore, I noticed my Elantras fuel cap has developed small cracks. Is this due to poor-quality plastic used in local models, o r are Pakistan’s extreme temperatures a factor?

Yes, there have been multiple reports from owners in hot regions like Lahore, Multan, and Karachi where the plastic fuel cap becomes brittle o r cracked within 1–2 years.
Pakistan’s climate—with high summer temperatures and UV exposure—can cause wear and tear on exterior rubber and plastic parts, especially if:

The car is parked in the sun for long hours.

The fuel cap is opened and closed roughly o r frequently.
Hyundai’s OEM fuel caps in local models may not always be optimized for harsh climates. Using a sunshade, parking in covered areas, and inspecting the cap regularly can help prolong its life.
