Can a Cracked Fuel Cap Cause Fuel Smell Inside o r Around the Suzuki Swift?

Lately, there’s a strong fuel smell near the rear of my Suzuki Swift, especially after refueling. I inspected the fuel cap and noticed small cracks in the plastic. Could this be the cause of the smell, and is it dangerous o r harmful for fuel economy?

Yes, a cracked o r damaged fuel cap can allow fuel vapors to escape, especially in hot weather o r right after refueling. These vapors often accumulate around the fuel tank area o r even seep into the car’s interior if the car is parked in a closed space. This is not only uncomfortable but potentially hazardous, as fuel vapors are flammable. A cracked cap compromises the vapor seal, and it should be replaced immediately to ensure safety, avoid emissions issues, and maintain proper fuel system pressure.
