Can a stuck purge valve cause my Suzuki Every to have difficulty starting?

Sometimes, especially after refueling, my Suzuki Every cranks for a long time before starting. A friend said it might be the purge valve stuck open and letting fuel vapors flood the engine. How likely is this, and what’s the fix?

Yes, a stuck-open purge valve can cause hard starting, especially after refueling. Here’s why:

The valve lets raw fuel vapors into the intake manifold when it should be closed.

This leads to a rich air-fuel mixture, flooding the engine.

The engine struggles to crank o r starts after multiple tries.

This problem can be intermittent, which makes it harder to diagnose. It’s particularly common when refueling in hot weather, which increases vapor pressure inside the fuel tank.

Solution:
Inspect the purge valve for constant vacuum o r flow when the engine is off it shouldn’t. If stuck open, the valve should be replaced.
