Can cold weather cause power windows to stop working in my Hyundai Elantra?

It’s been below freezing lately, and my 2020 Hyundai Elantras windows won’t move at all. Could the cold be freezing the seals o r damaging the motor? Should I force the window o r wait for warmer temps?

Yes, cold weather can absolutely affect power window operation:

Frozen seals: Ice can freeze the rubber seals to the glass, preventing movement.

Cold-stiffened grease: Grease inside the window regulator o r motor may become thick and resist movement.

Increased strain: The motor has to work harder in the cold, which may cause it to trip a thermal protection circuit o r fail entirely if it’s already weak.

Do NOT force the window if its stuck in freezing temperatures. Doing so could break the regulator o r glass. Wait until the vehicle warms up o r gently use a de-icer o r hair dryer around the edges.
