Can Low Tire Pressure Cause Increased Fuel Consumption in Suzuki Every?

I’ve noticed my fuel efficiency has ped recently. My mechanic said it might be due to low tire pressure. How does underinflated tires affect fuel consumption, especially in stop-and-go city traffic like Karachi’s? How often should I check tire pressure?
