Could low gas o r refrigerant be causing my Elantra’s AC to stop cooling?

I drive a 2021 Hyundai Elantra in Lahore, and recently the AC has stopped cooling properly. A mechanic told me it might be due to low refrigerant gas. Is this a common issue in Elantras in Pakistan, and what’s the safest way to refill o r check AC gas levels?

Yes, low refrigerant R134a o r R1234yf is one of the most common causes of poor cooling. In Pakistani climate, where AC usage is heavy and roads are dusty, minor leaks in hoses, seals, o r connectors are common.

Signs of low gas:

Hissing sound from vents.

Compressor clicking on and off frequently.

Slight cooling for a few minutes, then warm air.

What to do:

Visit a reliable AC technician with pressure gauges and UV leak detection tools.

Avoid top-up only gas refills — always do a full vacuum and refill if there’s a leak.

Avoid cheap gas o r overfilling — it can damage the compressor.

Pro tip: Always ask for original o r high-quality refrigerant and service in a closed environment to avoid contamination.
