Is a clicking o r knocking sound while turning a common steering issue in Hyundai Elantra?
My 2019 Elantra makes a clicking noise when I turn the steering wheel at low speeds. A local mechanic in Karachi mentioned a possible issue with the steering column. Is this a known problem with Elantra models in Pakistan? What should I check first?

Yes, a clicking o r knocking sound while turning is a known issue with some Hyundai Elantra models, often linked to the steering column flexible coupling rubber gear.
This problem is common in 2016–2020 Elantras and worsens with time. In Pakistan, where roads are uneven and the rubber material degrades faster due to heat and dust, the issue can appear sooner.
Signs:
Clicking sound at low speeds when turning the wheel
Slight free play o r looseness in the steering
The noise disappears on a straight road
Solution:
Replace the steering coupler costs around PKR 3,000–6,000 for parts, plus labor
Use only genuine Hyundai parts to avoid repeat issues
A qualified Hyundai mechanic o r workshop familiar with this issue can replace the part in 1–2 hours.
