Jeep Cherokee Fuel Average in Pakistan – Why So Low?
I’ve been driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee 4×4 in Karachi for the past few months, and the fuel average is way lower than expected. I’m getting around 6–7 km/l in city driving. Ive kept the vehicle maintained and drive carefully. Is this normal for this SUV in Pakistani conditions, o r could there be a tuning o r sensor issue affecting the fuel economy?

City traffic & stop‑start driving
In major cities Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, heavy traffic, many stops and starts, idling in traffic jams, AC use, etc., all increase fuel consumption significantly.
Fuel quality
Lower octane o r impure petrol, o r fuel with water/dirt, can reduce efficiency, cause misfires, o r require richer fuel mixture. This wastes fuel.
Poor maintenance
Dirty o r clogged air filters reduces airflow → engine works harder.
Old spark plugs, worn ignition parts → less efficient combustion.
Underinflated tyres o r misaligned wheels → more rolling resistance.
Using non‑OEM engine oils o r not changing oil/filter on time.
Driving style & load
Aggressive acceleration, carrying heavy load o r roof racks, running AC, rough roads → reduces mileage.
Vehicle condition & engine health
If engine, sensors, exhaust, throttle body, fuel injectors are not functioning optimally, you may see poor fuel average.
Variant & transmission differences
4×4 and heavier models o r those with automatic transmissions typically consume more fuel than lighter o r 2WD/manual ones.
According to PakWheels, the Cherokee in Pakistan gives about 13 km/L in city and about 8 km/L on highways depending on variant.
