“Oil Consumption & Smoke Issues — Is It Normal for Indian Route Cars?”
I own a Cherokee that has done a lot of long drives, including through mountain passes Kashmir route / Khyber Pass. Now it seems to consume more oil between changes, and sometimes there is light blue/grey smoke on cold startup. The engine is the 3.2L V6. Is this something many Cherokee owners in Pakistan experience? What are possible causes worn rings, valve seals, piston rings, PCV system and what remedy options are feasible locally?

Yes, increased oil consumption and occasional smoke are often reported by Jeep Cherokee owners in Pakistan, especially those driving in tough terrains like the northern areas o r border routes. If you see light blue o r grey smoke on startup, its usually a sign of worn piston rings o r valve seals — a common issue in Cherokees with higher mileage. The 3.2L V6 engine is known to develop such issues if not maintained properly. In Pakistan, factors like using low-quality oil, missing oil change intervals, o r driving in dusty and mountainous areas can accelerate wear. Also, a faulty PCV valve can cause excess oil to enter the intake, resulting in smoke. While some minor oil consumption is normal, noticeable smoke o r frequent oil top-ups should be checked by a mechanic. Replacing valve seals, inspecting the piston rings, o r cleaning the PCV system can solve the issue in many cases.
