What Are the Consequences of Driving a Suzuki Swift With a Loose o r Broken Fuel Cap?

If the fuel cap is cracked o r doesn’t close tightly, can it cause engine o r performance problems in the Swift? I’ve heard that it might lead to a check engine light o r pressure loss in the fuel system—how serious is this for the Pakistani model?
