What are the symptoms of a bad purge control valve in a Suzuki Every?

I’ve been experiencing rough idling and occasional engine stalling in my Suzuki Every, especially during start-up. A mechanic mentioned the purge control valve might be at fault. What are the common signs that indicate this valve is malfunctioning?

The purge control valve part of the EVAP system controls the release of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister into the engine intake. If this valve is faulty, you may notice:

Rough idling – Engine may vibrate o r idle unevenly, especially when cold.

Engine stalling – Especially at stop signs o r traffic signals.

Check engine light – Often triggered by EVAP-related trouble codes.

Difficulty starting – In some cases, particularly when the valve is stuck open.

Fuel smell – A leaking o r open valve may cause unburned fuel vapors to escape.

These issues are more noticeable in traffic-heavy Pakistani cities where stop-and-go driving is common.
