What causes the headlights on the Hyundai Elantra to fog up o r retain moisture?

Its common for Elantra owners to notice condensation o r fogging inside the headlight housings. Is this a design flaw o r an issue with seals? Could this affect headlight performance o r lead to electrical problems?

Moisture inside headlight assemblies is typically caused by improper sealing o r tiny cracks in the lens o r housing, which allow humidity to enter. In the Hyundai Elantra, this is especially common in models between 2011 and 2017, though it can occur in newer models too. Foggy headlights can reduce nighttime visibility and may eventually lead to bulb failure o r electrical corrosion.
Temporary fogging can happen due to temperature changes, but persistent condensation o r pooling water indicates a problem. Sealing the headlight o r replacing the gasket can help, though in some cases, the entire headlight assembly may need replacement. Hyundai generally does not cover this unless the car is still under warranty.
