My 2016 Hyundai Elantra has rough idling and sluggish acceleration. Someone suggested it might be the mass air flow MAF sensor. How can I tell if it’s failing, and can I clean it instead of replacing it?

The MAF sensor measures air entering the engine to balance air/fuel mixture.

Symptoms of failure:

Rough idle

Hesitation o r stalling

Poor acceleration

Reduced fuel economy

Check engine light e.g., P0101

You can try cleaning the sensor with MAF cleaner spray if it’s dirty do not touch the sensor element. If cleaning doesn’t help, replacement may be needed. It’s usually located near the air intake box and costs ~$50–$200.
