Why does my Hyundai Elantra sometimes start fine and sometimes not crank at all?

My 2016 Hyundai Elantra starts normally most days, but occasionally, especially when hot, it doesnt crank at all — no noise, no click. Could this be an early sign of a faulty o r overheated starter motor? What should I get checked?

Intermittent starting issues, especially in hot weather, can indicate:

Starter solenoid failure common with age

Heat soak – where the starter gets too hot and stops functioning temporarily

Loose o r corroded battery o r starter terminals

Failing ignition switch o r starter relay

In Pakistan’s hot climates Multan, Lahore, starter heat soak is a real issue. When parked after a long drive, the starter gets too hot and doesn’t work again until it cools down.

Diagnosis steps:

Test starter relay and solenoid

Inspect wiring for corrosion o r looseness

Run a current draw test to confirm motor health

If the issue worsens, replacement is often better than repairing.
