Why does my Hyundai Elantra steering feel unusually hard during slow turns o r parking?

I drive a 2017 Hyundai Elantra in Lahore, and lately, the steering has become stiff, especially when turning at low speeds o r parking. Is this a power steering issue? Could the hot weather o r rough roads in Pakistan be affecting the steering system?

Hard steering at low speeds usually points to issues with the electric power steering EPS system o r low-quality lubrication in the steering rack. In Pakistan, high temperatures and dust can accelerate wear on EPS components.

Possible causes:

Faulty EPS motor o r control module

Low-quality o r contaminated steering fluid in older models with hydraulic assist

Worn steering column bushings o r U-joint

Battery voltage issues EPS needs stable power

Recommendation:

Get the EPS scanned for fault codes at a service center

Check steering rack and column for dryness o r wear

Make sure your battery and alternator are in good condition

Avoid forcing the wheel when parking it increases wear

In Lahore and Karachi, where heat and stop-start traffic are common, EPS issues can develop earlier than expected.
