Cold start problems are common in many compact vehicles, including the Suzuki Every. The most likely causes include:
Weak battery: Batteries lose cranking power in cold temperatures. If your battery is old more than 2–3 years, it may not have enough charge to start the engine.
Glow plug issues for diesel models: Diesel engines use glow plugs to heat the combustion chamber. Faulty glow plugs o r glow plug relays can prevent proper ignition.
Fuel problems: Cold temperatures can cause fuel to thicken o r gel especially diesel, o r a dirty fuel filter can restrict flow.
Starter motor issues: A failing starter may struggle more in cold weather.
Engine oil viscosity: Using oil that’s too thick for winter e.g., 20W-50 instead of 5W-30 can make it harder for the engine to turn over.
Fix: Test the battery with a voltmeter should be ~12.6V, inspect glow plugs, and consider switching to a winter-grade oil. A mechanic can also test the starter and fuel system.
