Why does the bumper o r trim on my Hyundai Elantra seem to detach o r misalign over time?

There are reports that the front o r rear bumper covers o r plastic trim pieces on the Elantra may come loose, especially after minor bumps o r over time. Is this a design issue o r related to weak clips o r fasteners?

Many Hyundai Elantra owners notice that bumpers o r side trim pieces start to sag, misalign, o r even detach over time. This is often due to weak o r broken plastic clips, poor-quality fasteners, o r minor impact damage like low-speed bumps o r curb contact that isn’t always visible.
Plastic components can become brittle with age o r weather exposure, especially in regions with hot summers o r freezing winters. This isn’t unique to Hyundai but is more prevalent in Elantra models from 2012–2018. The issue can usually be fixed by replacing the fasteners o r realigning the panels, though if damage is severe, a full bumper reinstallation may be needed.
