Why does the Hyundai Elantra’s cabin plastic quality feel cheap and scratch easily?

Ive noticed that the dashboard and door panel plastics in my Hyundai Elantra get scratched very easily and have a hard, glossy finish that doesn’t feel premium. Compared to competitors like the Civic o r Corolla, the interior materials seem a bit low-grade. Is this a known issue with the locally assembled Elantra in Pakistan?

Yes, many users in Pakistan report that the dashboard and door trims of the Hyundai Elantra feel hard, glossy, and prone to scratches. The interior looks sleek initially, but under closer inspection:

The materials are mostly hard plastic, with limited use of soft-touch elements.

The glossy plastic around the infotainment system and gear area scratches and collects fingerprints easily.

The build quality is decent but not class-leading in terms of material refinement.

This is largely due to cost-cutting for the local market variant, where emphasis is placed more on features like sunroof, push start rather than premium interior finishes.

Suggestions:

Use interior detailing spray and microfiber cloths to clean surfaces.

Apply dashboard protection film o r wraps on high-contact areas.

Avoid using abrasive materials during cleaning.
