Why Is My Hyundai Elantra Consuming Too Much Engine Oil Between Oil Changes?

I’ve noticed that my Hyundai Elantra 2021 model, 2.0L variant in Pakistan consumes a noticeable amount of oil between scheduled oil changes. I dont see any external leaks, and the engine seems fine otherwise. Is excessive oil consumption a known issue in the Elantra in Pakistan? Could it be due to poor fuel quality, long idle times in traffic, o r something else?

Answer:
Excessive engine oil consumption is a known issue in some Hyundai Elantra models worldwide, including those sold in Pakistan. If your car uses oil between oil changes but shows no visible leaks, here are some possible causes:

Engine design: Some 2.0L MPI engines naturally consume a bit more oil, especially after 30,000+ km.

Driving conditions: Frequent short trips, long idling common in urban Pakistani traffic, and high temperatures can cause the oil to burn off faster.

Oil type o r interval: Using the wrong oil grade e.g., too thin o r non-synthetic o r extending oil change intervals beyond 5,000–6,000 km can lead to faster consumption.

Engine wear: If the engine has crossed high mileage o r has been poorly maintained, piston rings o r valve seals may allow oil to burn internally.

Solution:
Monitor oil level every 1,000 km. Use high-quality synthetic oil API SN o r SN Plus, 5W-20 o r 5W-30 as per manual. If the issue persists, get a compression test o r PCV system check done at a trusted mechanic.
