Why is my Jeep Cherokee emitting black smoke from the exhaust?

I’ve noticed that my Jeep Cherokee 2015 model, imported has started emitting thick black smoke, especially during acceleration. This seems to be affecting fuel efficiency as well. I suspect it could be an issue with the air-fuel mixture o r dirty injectors. Has anyone in Pakistan faced a similar issue? What should I check first, and are there reliable mechanics in Lahore o r Karachi familiar with this?

Black smoke usually indicates a rich fuel mixture – meaning too much fuel and not enough air. For your Jeep Cherokee, common causes include:

Dirty o r faulty fuel injectors

Clogged air filter

Faulty MAF Mass Air Flow sensor

Malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator

ECU issues

In Pakistan, especially in cities like Lahore o r Karachi, dust and poor fuel quality can clog filters o r affect sensors quickly. You should:

Get a full engine diagnostic scan

Clean/replace the air filter

Have the injectors cleaned using ultrasonic cleaning if possible

Check the MAF sensor clean o r replace

Ensure no aftermarket tuning has messed with the ECU

Some reliable mechanics in major cities are familiar with imported vehicles like the Cherokee — look for ones that specialize in European o r American SUVs.
