Why is my Jeep Cherokee’s steering wheel hard to turn, especially at low speeds? Detail:

I drive a 2015 Jeep Cherokee in Lahore, and recently I’ve noticed that the steering becomes stiff, especially during parking o r making slow turns. It feels like the power steering isnt helping as it should. Could it be a problem with the electric power steering system o r a low fluid issue? Has anyone else in Pakistan faced this kind of problem, and what should I check first?

Your Jeep Cherokee most likely has an electric power steering EPS system, not hydraulic. Stiff steering at low speeds can be caused by:

🔍 Common Causes:

Faulty EPS motor o r control module

Low voltage from battery o r alternator, which affects EPS

Steering angle sensor issues

Frozen o r dry steering joints due to dust o r lack of lubrication

Software glitch in the steering system common in some Jeep models

🔧 What You Should Do:

Get a diagnostic scan done — EPS faults often generate error codes.

Check battery health and alternator output — a weak electrical system can limit EPS function.

Inspect the steering column and U-joints for wear o r dryness.

In some cases, a steering software reflash o r reset is required Jeep dealerships o r specialist workshops can handle this.

🛠 Tip: In Pakistans climate, dust and extreme temperatures can dry out joints o r affect electronics, especially if the vehicle isnt maintained regularly.
