Why is the paint on my Hyundai Elantra peeling o r fading prematurely?

Many Hyundai Elantra owners, particularly those with older models e.g., 2011–2016, have reported premature paint peeling—especially on the roof, hood, and trunk areas. What causes this issue, and is it covered under any recall o r extended warranty?

Premature paint peeling is a widely reported issue among Hyundai Elantra models, especially those built between 2011 and 2016. The problem typically occurs on horizontal surfaces like the hood, roof, and trunk, where paint is exposed to the most sun and environmental damage. This issue is often linked to insufficient clear coat adhesion, poor factory paint quality, o r environmental wear UV exposure, acid rain, etc..
Although Hyundai has not issued a full recall for paint issues, some models may be covered under a limited paint warranty o r class-action settlements depending on your location. If your vehicle is within the warranty period, its recommended to visit a Hyundai dealership for inspection and possibly a repaint under warranty.
