Toyota Prius 1st Generation Overview

The 1st Generation Toyota Prius was first introduced in 1997 as a front engine full hybrid electric mid-size hatchback. This first-generation Prius was the world's first mass-produced hybrid gasoline-electric car and won numerous awards, including the Car of the Year Japan Award and the Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference Car of the Year award in Japan. The Toyota Prius set the standard for hybrid cars that we see today in most production cars. Production of the 1st Generation Toyota Prius lasted for seven years, and it was available to purchase from 1997 to 2003. The 1997 Toyota Prius is only available in one variant, but its price was competitive when compared to other cars in its class.

Exterior

Exterior-wise, the 1st Generation Toyota Prius has a unique and distinctive design language. The front end has upswept trapezium-styled headlights, a small grille with quad slim narrow intakes, and a trapezium air intake with dual slim narrow rectangular styled inlets. The rear end features angular trapezium-styled side swept taillights, an outward sticking bumper, and a standard case hatchback.

Interior

The interior of the 1st Generation Toyota Prius features grey and light grey plastic trim pieces, and the front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power lock doors, a tachometer, a trip computer, and a cup holder. There are options to include cruise control, satellite navigation, climate control, wood paneling, traction control, and a sunroof. Despite being a subcompact hatchback, the 1st Generation Prius offers a decent amount of interior space and provides a good amount of comfort and interior refinement.
