BYD Launches New Dolphin Surf Model

The Dolphin Surf launch marks a significant step for BYD in Europe, introducing a compact and affordable electric car to 15 countries. Originally known as the Seagull in China, the newly rebranded BYD Dolphin Surf brings urban mobility to the forefront of EV innovation. This BYD electric hatchback has already proven itself in its home market and is now geared up to impress European drivers with its compact size, efficiency, and price.

A Proven Success Back Home
In China, the model is a standout performer. Over 55,000 Seagulls (now known in Europe as Dolphin Surf) were sold in April alone, making it BYD’s best-selling car in a single model category. The name “Surf” helps distinguish this European version from BYD’s other model, the larger Dolphin. The BYD Dolphin release is the tenth vehicle added to the automaker's growing lineup across Europe.

Pricing and Performance Details
The Dolphin Surf price starts at an appealing €22,990, with three versions on offer. The base variant delivers 220 km of WLTP range (310 km city) using a 30 kWh battery and 88 hp motor. The upgraded model, priced at €24,990, offers an impressive 322 km WLTP range (507 km city) thanks to a 43.2 kWh battery and a more powerful 156 hp motor, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 9.1 seconds. These figures highlight the solid Dolphin Surf specs and justify growing interest in this BYD new car.

Special Offers and Incentives
Early adopters can benefit from limited-time discounts. Until the end of June, BYD offers the Dolphin Surf at a promotional price starting from €19,990. With local incentives, buyers in Spain could pay as little as €11,780. The higher-spec Comfort version comes in at an effective €18,280. These attractive prices enhance the appeal in the BYD Dolphin review conversations online and across automotive forums.

BYD Expands Its European Presence
The BYD Dolphin Surf 2025 is part of a broader strategy to establish BYD as a key EV player in Europe. The company plans to expand into 12 new markets this year, growing its footprint to over 1,000 sales locations. Additionally, BYD will establish its European headquarters and R&D center in Budapest, Hungary. The model’s global momentum continues with over 172,000 Seagulls sold in China between January and April, and more than 28,000 exported so far—cementing its status as a true global EV contender.
