New Electric Bus Service Starts In Rawalpindi - Routes Info
In a major move to modernize city commuting, the Punjab Chief Minister has officially launched Rawalpindi’s electric bus service today. This initiative aims to provide residents with a cleaner, eco-friendly alternative to traditional transport, while reducing traffic congestion and pollution throughout the city.
First Phase: 45 Buses Across Strategic Routes
The electric bus fleet in Rawalpindi begins operations with 45 buses covering four main routes, including the cantonment area. These routes are carefully chosen to maximize connectivity and convenience for commuters, marking a milestone in the city’s push for sustainable public transport.
Major Routes Include:
Route 1: Saddar to Qabristan Chowk (7 km, 7 buses)
Connecting key commercial zones like Qasim Market and Shalley Valley, this corridor serves one of the busiest areas of Rawalpindi.
Route 2: Fawara Chowk to Koral Chowk (11.3 km, 8 buses)
Passing through Liaquat Bagh, Sir Syed Road, and Old Airport Road, this route links bustling neighborhoods with commercial hubs.
Route 3: Saddar Metro Bus Station to Munawar Colony (7 buses)
Running along Tulsa Road, it offers vital connectivity for residents in a prominent residential area.
Route 4: Marrir Metro Bus Station to Motorway Chowk (13.1 km, 14 buses)
Connecting The Mall and Peshawar Road, this route improves long-distance travel and links commuters to major highways.
Supporting Infrastructure and Daily Operations
A dedicated charging station for Rawalpindi’s electric buses is now operational at the Saddar GTS bus stand on Adamjee Road, with plans for a larger depot on Peshawar Road. The buses are expected to serve approximately 24,000 passengers daily, seamlessly integrating with metro bus networks in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Trained Staff and Environmental Benefits
Drivers and ticketing personnel have received specialized training to ensure smooth operations. Unlike diesel buses, these eco-friendly electric buses in Rawalpindi are designed to minimize carbon emissions, offering a greener and more sustainable commuting option for the city’s residents.
Future Expansion and Sustainable Mobility
Authorities have confirmed plans to expand the Rawalpindi electric bus service with additional buses and routes if the initial phase proves successful. This initiative underscores a long-term commitment to environmentally friendly urban mobility and positions Rawalpindi as a leader in green public transport in Pakistan.
