Punjab Set to Launch AI-Powered Driving License Test System

Punjab is introducing a new, technology-driven driving license testing system, marking one of the biggest upgrades to the province’s traffic management framework. The move focuses on using artificial intelligence–enabled vehicles to make the licensing process fair, transparent, and free from human influence.

AI Vehicles to Replace Manual Driving Test Checks

The Traffic Headquarters has forwarded a proposal to the provincial government, seeking approval to purchase 32 AI-equipped test vehicles, with the procurement expected to finish by December. These vehicles will contain advanced sensors, high-resolution cameras, and intelligent processing units that can automatically monitor each applicant’s performance during the test.

First Deployment in Major Cities

The department has already manufactured two prototype vehicles and successfully completed their testing phase. Once the system receives approval, the first batch of AI vehicles will be deployed in Lahore and other major urban centers, marking the beginning of a fully automated driving test system.

Major Investment for a Transparent System

The provincial government plans to invest over Rs. 160 million in the fleet of AI vehicles. Additionally, installing technical equipment in each vehicle will cost approximately Rs. 600,000 per unit. After installation, the AI system will independently generate test results—completely eliminating manual grading, favoritism, or any external interference.

No More Influence or Corruption in Licensing

According to officials, the automated assessment technology will ensure that only qualified drivers receive licenses, shutting the door on politically backed or untrained applicants. The DIG Traffic Punjab has already reviewed and forwarded the proposal for final approval, and the department aims to launch the new system immediately after the vehicles arrive.
